The group will offer assistance, mentoring, and opportunities for interacting with other researchers in a variety of food protection-related fields.

Currently, the Young Professionals Group has established a LinkedIn account and a Google group site to serve as communication tools for members. In addition, there is a “Young Professionals tab” at the CAFPA website providing a calendar of activities, links of interest, and information about the mentorship program.

Please feel free to join our group if you are a student or postdoctoral fellow CAFPA member. You are invited to share this information with other eligible students and/or postdocs who may be interested.

]]> http://cafpa.com/2012/09/30/presentations-are-up/feed/ 0 2012 Capital Area Food Protection Association Student Travel Award http://cafpa.com/2012/06/18/2012-capital-area-food-protection-association-student-travel-award/ http://cafpa.com/2012/06/18/2012-capital-area-food-protection-association-student-travel-award/#comments Mon, 18 Jun 2012 19:02:20 +0000 admin http://cafpa.com/?p=170 Continue reading →]]> The Capital Area Food Protection Association (CAFPA) is pleased to announce its second annual Student Travel Award Competition.  CAFPA invites all graduate students in the CAFPA region (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.) who plan to give an oral presentation or poster at the 2012 International Association for Food Protection Annual Meeting in Providence, RI to submit an extended abstract of their original food safety-related research to cafpadc@gmail.com by June 22, 2012.  The extended abstract should be based on the student’s abstract which has been submitted and accepted for presentation at the IAFP 2012 meeting.  Length of the extended abstract is to be a maximum of 2 pages.

Graduate students must be currently enrolled or just graduated (spring 2012) to be eligible for the travel award.  Only one application per student will be accepted.

To apply for this award, students should submit:

  • Extended abstract (maximum two pages), single spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font, 1 inch margins
  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Statement of student’s interest in food safety and career goals (1 /2 – 1 page long, same formatting as  extended abstract)

Final decision for First and Second Place winners will be made by July 6, 2012 and all applicants will be notified promptly.  First Place winner will receive $500 and Second Place winner will receive $250.
